2014 WHABA FALL BALL PROGRAMS ANNOUNCED

WHABA will be Offering a fall ball program again this year under the WEST HARTFORD THUNDER BASEBALL program. This Workout style program will start on Sunday 9/07 and will run through Mid-October at the HALL VARSITY and JV BASEBALL FIELDs. A brief description of this program can be found below by age group.

U13 Transitional Program

For Players who have just finished their last season on the small diamond and will be turning 13 years of age and will play on the big diamond next spring. This program will teach these players the game of baseball on the big diamond and will help them get a step up on facing those challenges next spring. These players will be put into a workout style atmosphere and will be trained by current American Legion and WHABA coaches. They will not be placed on teams or play in a league , however a scrimmage or two is not out of the question , depending on how quickly they grasp the knowledge and how comfortable they become on the 90 foot diamond. This program will meet two days a week , Wednesday and Sunday afternoons. While attendance is not mandatory we feel you will only get out of this program what you put into it and our hope is that this schedule will allow you do to other sports or activities this fall as well. The number of spots available will be limited.

Middle school (second year on big diamond) and High school level program.

This program returns for its second year, a workout style format will allow you to get as many reps as possible at a position of your choice , or work at a new position as well. Often in a game you may never have a ball hit to you, so are you really developing or improving? In this format you will see hundreds of ground ball, or fly balls and will be challenged in pregame workout. A scrimmage or two will be scheduled if we have enough pitching and interest. Program starts 9/07 and will run through Mid-October , Players will meet on Wednesdays and Sundays, late afternoons and should not interfere with Fall High School sports.

If interested in these programs and would like to register, please click on this form below, fill out and mail in to the address noted on the form.

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY FOR LOCAL PLAYER

Dylan Robinson, NORTHWEST CATHOLIC senior shown here recently signing his national letter of intent to play at DIVSION 1 UMASS. The WHYBL alum and WHABA alum and current POST 96 outfielder proved once again that hard work, dedication and sacrifice on and off the field along with passion for the game, can help you fulfill your dream. It was a great day for Dylan and his family and the entire WHABA baseball family as well, as WEST HARTFORD BASEBALL sends off another alum into the college ranks in 2014. Coach Rick Sanford, seen here congratulating Dylan, said “ Dylan is the type of player that colleges are looking for; very good student, great team player and model citizen, a grinder and hard worker, always trying to improve his game. The entire Legion coaching staff and his team mates wish him the best of luck.

HALL TAKES SECOND ANNUAL MAYORS CUP BEHIND KOCHEN

If you were not able to make it to the game last Friday at the University of Hartford, you missed a good one!. Beautiful weather , great venue and some pretty good baseball, And a really nice crowd this year, standing room only.

Andy Monos and Will Cook are pictured here hosting the cup along with the rest of the Hall Warriors as they defeated the Conard Chieftains for the second year in a row , by a score of 7-4. Jake Kochen got the win , throwing a complete game, scattered a few hits here and there but for the most part , kept the cross town rivals at bay most of the day most of the day. Number three star of the game was CONARDS John DINUCCI who went 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored, number two star was HALL’S Dan Nunes who was 2-4 with a Double and two rbi that sealed the game. The number one star and game MVP was Jake Kochen for his pitching performance.

Youth and WHABA players who wore their uniforms were asked to take the field for the national Anthem , a few teams from the WHYBL were present as were the WHABA U13 THUNDER and LIGHTNING and the U14 THUNDER.

Special thanks to Cricket Press for putting together the wonderful program and for WHLL, WHYBL, VENORA ELECTRIC, NISE for $$ supporting the program as well. WHABA and FRIENDS OF WEST HARTFORD BASEBALL once again sponsored the game held at the University of Hartford, a tradition in its second year that will be a fan favorite in years to come for sure.

The cup will remain on the HALL CAMPUS until these two teams meet again next spring

See you next year

HALL TAKES FIRST MAYORS CUP WITH 4- 1 WIN OVER CONARD

Charlie Fisher pitched well for Conard, but Hall Senior George Lund was almost perfect, he allowed just one run on one hit, he also had two hits on the day as did Junior second basemen Will Cook. Conard drew first blood while showing very good patience at the plate and aggressive base running in the first and took the lead 1-0 without a hit. But that was all they could muster as Lund got better each inning. Conard defense made a number of defensive gems to keep the game close until Tommy rose hit a 2 strike single up the middle to plate two runs to make it 3-1. Hall then added a fourth run on a well executed squeeze play and Lund took over from there despite Brendan Rossmeisl braking up the NO NO in the sixth. A very well played game by two evenly matched teams. The cup will stay on the HALL HIGH Campus until next years Mayor cup game.

Special thanks to Cricket Press and the Confessore Family for their donation of the game programs. Also Steve Kunsey of the New Britain Rocks Cats for donating the Raffle prize and making our in between the innings a lot more fun.

Thanks to Mayor Slifka for being part of our celebration and staying for the whole game !!! Thanks to the fans for supporting your teams and coming out the game , both Steve and I are already planning for next year’s game to see how we can make it even better. Thanks to Betty for supporting WHABA and our very aggressive ideas, without her support these projects would never get off the ground.

Thanks to Pete Lamouroux and his crew from Beethoven Radio , it added a special touch to this years game. We also want to thank the U of Hartford for allowing us to rent their beautiful facility for the afternoon. And also Ronnie Newton from the WEST HARTFORD PATCH for their continued coverage and support. FOR MORE DETAILS AND PHOTOS, PLEASE VISIT THE WEST HARTFORD PATCH

ZINZARELLAS MAKE WHABA WINTER WORKOUTS A FAMILY AFFAIR

We have always felt that the WINTER WORKOUT players were one big happy family, but the ZINZARELLA CLAN has taken that statement to a whole new level. All four kids CHRIS(HALL JR) ANNA (HALL SOPH) ANDREW(HALL FRESH) and TOMMY (8th grader), participated in the program this year and kept their parents car pool going 24/7. Anna joined us for the first time this year as she wanted to be challenged so she could be prepared for her upcoming softball tryouts at Hall. Chris and Andrew feel the workouts really help them get ready for the Hall Baseball tryouts as well and believe these are a must do!!!. Coaches have cited that you can really tell the difference between a WINTER WHABA PLAYER and someone who did not participate in the program. Both Chris and Andrew took it one step further this year as they also volunteered their time to help out with the younger players during the early Saturday Morning hitting sessions, often arriving by 730am, six hours before their scheduled sessions with their own group. I guess it’s safe to say that baseball is in their blood and a big part of the ZINZARELLA family! As the sessions come to an end this week due to the beautiful weather outdoors, we want to thank all the parents who found a way to get their kids to the sessions in between all of the other normal winter activities. When you have a chance, please thank the KINGSWOOD OXFORD SCHOOL. Without their support, this type of program would not happen. Also, thanks to the many volunteer coaches, some of which their kids are grown up and gone, so we really appreciate them supporting WEST HARTFORD BASEBALL.
